Juicy citrus fruits

Here’s the latest surface pattern I’m working on for Spoonflower’s fabric of the week contest. The theme is ‘Citrus Fruits’. I wanted to do something bright on dark gray so I started by drawing some “slices” of grapefruits, limes and oranges. I wanted to make them true to life, but with my usual geometric design style. I drew all the ‘pulp’ as drops that make up the slices. Then, I couldn’t help myself but to incorporate some ombre as the pith and skin. After messing around a LOT, I came up with this scallop pattern and then created the simple grey on grey versions as my grey background. I think it turned out sort of like lace! Grey, green, orange, and coral lace anyway. I’m still tweaking it, but here is the one I think I will enter. What do you think? I’m thinking kitchen tea towels, placemats, napkins and a sweet twirly skirt would be juicy fruit fun!
